Why I Combine Coherence Therapy with IFS

I work with the science that there are 3 parts to therapy:

1) the outcome: sustained change

2) the structure: the 3 step memory reconsolidation process

2) the process: a required experiential (feeling) process, not just a talking/thinking one.

A key part of the process is activating the feeling states in order to rewrite the neural pathways. IFS helps us access the living experience underneath the problem. A protective part, a younger part, a fear, a belief, a memory ... and something begins to be felt, not just discussed.

This matters, because deep change happens through experience, not explanation.

Many therapies, including Internal Family Systems, can often do only 2 out of the 3 steps of memory reconsolidation, the updated science on what overwrites not just creates a parallel competing neural pathway.

Internal Family Systems is a beautiful way of discovering the Emotional Truth behind why parts of us behave or believe what they do. It's a gentle compassionate process that helps us build a compassionate and caring relationship to our different parts and the roles they play for us.

Coherence Therapy provides the structure for change. Drawing on memory reconsolidation research, it helps the brain update old emotional learning at its source.

Instead of trying to override the pattern, we discover the emotional truth that has been keeping it in place and then bring it into contact with new, lived knowledge.

IFS helps the inner world open.

Coherence Therapy helps the brain revise what it learned.

Together, they support change that feels natural, embodied, and lasting.

When you've decided you're ready for change...
